Shortly after Relentless IT was founded, CryptoLocker appeared — one of the first ransomware campaigns to demand payment in Bitcoin. A single Bitcoin was worth roughly one hundred dollars at the time. What we recognised then was the model: anonymous payment infrastructure, automated encryption, a criminal enterprise that required no physical presence and left no easy trail. It was genius and a new gold-rush for cyber-criminals. We understood at that point that this was going to be part of the future and cybersecurity was going to be our main focus going forward.
